A Trout Unlimited biologist based in Calgary, Lesley Peterson is a member of the province's Whirling Disease Committee established in late 2016 in response to the first detection of the disease in Canada.
Whirling disease, which affects trout and whitefish, was confirmed in Banff in August 2016 and has since been confirmed at sites throughout the Bow River watershed.
Peterson will talk about whirling disease and the life cycle of the parasite that causes it, the history and distribution of the disease and how it can affect fish. She'll also give an update on the situation in Alberta and how you can help.
